Hainan Classic Round 1

Jordan Gumberg seized the clubhouse lead after a stunning opening round, carding an 8-under par 64. The American's performance was defined by an extraordinary finish; after a steady day, he closed with five consecutive birdies to jump to the top of the leaderboard. Gumberg took full advantage of the scoring opportunities on the Blackstone Course, demonstrating elite putting to distance himself from the early pace-setters. Spain’s Jorge Campillo sits in solo second place after a bogey-free 7-under 65 on the Vintage Course. Campillo’s round was a display of tactical precision, particularly on a much-improved back nine. A chasing pack at 6-under par includes Aaron Cockerill, Dylan Frittelli, and Jason Scrivener. Local favorite Wenyi Ding also started strong with a 66, keeping the home crowd engaged as the tour makes its long-awaited return to China.
