Hainan Classic Round 2

Jordan Gumberg extended his lead at the halfway stage, reaching 14-under par after a composed second-round 66. Building on his record-equaling finish from Thursday, the American carded seven birdies and just a single bogey on the Vintage Course. Gumberg’s consistency has been the standout feature of his performance, keeping his "putter rolling" to double his advantage over the field as he heads into the weekend on the Blackstone Course. Spain’s Jorge Campillo remains the closest pursuer at 12-under par following a resilient 67. Despite a "silly" run of bogeys on his opening nine (the back nine), Campillo rallied with five birdies on the front nine to keep the pressure on the leader. South African duo Thriston Lawrence and Dylan Frittelli share third place at 10-under, while a strong local showing sees four Chinese players—Bowen Xiao, Wenyi Ding, Yanhan Zhou, and Bo Jin—all tied for sixth at 8-under. The cut was established at a competitive level, setting the stage for a weekend showdown at Mission Hills.
